EuropaCompostela 2010 from Norway

Dear pilgrim friends,

Thank you for reading our blog. We should of course have written all our posts in French, German and English for our friendly international audience. We are amazed and grateful for all the attention and kind greetings that we receive from you.

Supportive pilgrims
Our relay started from Stiklestad 26 February this year, the same day as our Polish friends set out from Tarnów. We have made alliances with our pilgrim friends in Denmark , Germany and France, and they have been genuinely supportive and encouraging all the way.

Mayors joined in
The Norwegians needed a little while to get accustomed to the idea of a pilgrim relay. But once we got started, and as soon as the newspapers gave us publicity, the whole situation changed for the better. Not only did the media wake up, but so did Mayors, Bishops and pilgrim enthusiasts along the way. Once we communicated that we were walking for human rights, for peace and the environment, everyone wanted to rally behind the relay towards Compostela. Mayors from many municipalities have carried the baton themselves on some of the stages.

Our baton has been transported by bicyclists on highways and roads, by skiers on tracks over mountains and through valleys – and by walkers on pilgrim paths. Currently the baton is carried by many willing participants on its way via Oslo bound for Larvik in southern Norway.

European Pilgrims Unite
One of the Norwegian participants will later bring the baton from Larvik on the ferry across the Skagerak to Hirtshals in Denmark. From then on we will entrust our baton in the care of our Danish, and later German and French participants. They will carry our baton through Denmark and Germany to Aachen – where our French friends will take over and bring the baton to Le Puy. From Le Puy pilgrims from the Nordic countries again take over the baton and continue towards Compostela with it.

On our way we have entrusted our baton in the hands of numerous friends in the international Pilgrim Community. In this way we rely (pun intended) on the international brother- and sisterhood between pilgrims. This blog will later bring news from the relay through Denmark, Germany, France and Spain.

Thank you and Buen Camino to all participants!
